If the irritation continues, it can lead to an irreversible infection, and the tooth may become partially or completely gangrenous.

A tooth can be necrotic due to untreated decay, trauma, or multiple large fillings. When the pulp is necrotic, you have irreversible pulpitis. In this case, you will need a root canal or a tooth extraction.

It has to have a continuous supply of blood. If something interferes with the blood supply to the tooth, the two main symptoms you will notice are pain and discoloration. Pain. Discomfort is often the first symptom of a necrotic tooth.
